Letter From the Principal

Dear Greylock Families,
It is hard to believe that summer is over and that we are once again beginning another school year. Much work has occurred over the summer in preparation for a successful academic year.
What many of you may have notice was the new Greylock School sign. During the 2006-2007 school year the School Council held a spaghetti dinner to raise funds for the purchase of a new sign. Thanks to the talent and hard work of Jerry Baran and the students of the North Adams Off Campus Shop our new sign is now gracing the entrance of the parking lot. Our next initiative will be to landscape around the sign with the help of Catherine Annicharico, from Mt. Williams Greenhouse. Ms. Annicharico will work with the fifth grade classes to select shrubs and perennial plants for the project.
Also, this summer many teachers participated in math training under the direction of Dr. Mahesh Sharma. Students this year will be learning math concepts through the use of Cuisenaire rods. It is an initiative that we are very excited about.
We began the year in a new way by hosting an “Ice Cream Social” in August to get everyone in the mood for another great year. Over 175 people attended the social during which the sign was unveiled, prizes were given away, Greylock tiger buttons were made and tours of the building took place. It was a truly successful event.
When visiting the building this year you will notice brightly colored banners in the hallways indicating the grade level classrooms. The banners give the hallways a cheery appearance as well as assist visitors in finding classrooms.
Once again this year the students will participate in monthly reading challenges. My goal is to have 100% participation from the student body. I was very pleased with the number of students who completed the summer reading challenge. Great job, everyone!
I would like to take a moment to thank you for being involved in your child’s education. I believe beyond a doubt that when schools and families work together students benefit tremendously. I look forward to a wonderful school year.
Sincerely,
Sandra J. Cote
Principal
